Every year, on the Friday before Palm Sunday, SWS hosts a student Retreat Day, intended to prepare hearts and minds for Holy Week. This year, SWS planned a Passover Seder for grades 4-8 to give our students a better understanding of the Passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples at the Last Supper. It was a moving experience for all involved, connecting the rituals and traditions of the Jewish Passover with the beauty of our Catholic faith and the Sacrifice of the Mass. Following the Seder, students attended the Living Stations of the Cross, beautifully presented by our 7th graders. It was a day spent journeying with Jesus through His last meal and His Passion. We give thanks to God for His many blessings on our school!
A great turnout for the Tomorrow's Hope Foundation Fun Run and 5K, in support of the important work done each and every day at Catholic Schools across Long Island! It was also a great day for St. William the Abbot School as we brought the St. Joseph Cup to Seaford, with the highest number of runners from participating Catholic Schools (20 in total!). SWS also took the honors for Fastest Elementary School! There must have been a little luck in the Ella-designed t-shirts! That's right, SWS 5th grader Ella Walsh won the T-shirt design contest, too! What a day for SWS!
St. William the Abbot 3rd and 4th graders brought history to life in a most "wax-cellent" way with their first-ever Living Wax Museum. Guests (parents, grandparents, and friends) were welcomed by historical figures ranging from St. Padre Pio to the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, and so many others! Our presenters were poised, confident, and proud of their efforts. Well done!
Our Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th Day of School with a special song, treats, and activities! They are 100 days smarter, and we couldn't be more proud of them! We Are St. William's!
Since 1954, families have found more than a school here — they’ve found home. A tight-knit Catholic community rooted in faith, strong academics, and a tradition of success where every child is known and loved.

Under the direction of moderators Mrs. Mary Bradley and Mrs. Anna Sullivan, members of the SWS National Junior Honor Society spearheaded a Community Toy Drive in support of the St. Vincent dePaul organization. Toys were collected each morning by the NJHS members in the hopes of making spirits bright for children in need. What a wonderful way to live out their faith and give back to the community. We Are St. William's!
St. William the Abbot joyfully welcomed Fr. Brandon O’Brien, Adjutant Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, to celebrate Mass on October 21, 2025. Our 6th Grade students prepared a beautiful Liturgy centered on the theme of peace, inspiring all in attendance with their reverence and participation.
Following Mass, students, families, and friends gathered on the Great Lawn to pray the Rosary together. Under a clear blue sky, we lifted our prayers—and our balloon Rosary—to Heaven, asking our Blessed Mother to intercede on our behalf and to keep St. William the Abbot a shining beacon of Catholic education.
It was another spectacular day at St. William the Abbot School!
True learning happens when hearts, minds, and hands come together in meaningful ways. To strengthen our mission of educating the whole person, SWS has introduced TECHLESS TUESDAYS--a weekly opportunity for students and teachers to step away from screens and rediscover the joy of learning through authentic, face-to-face experiences.
On TECHLESS TUESDAYS, classrooms are alive with discussion, creativity, problem-solving, reading, writing, collaboration, and hands-on exploration. Whether it's taking a lesson outdoors, annotating a good book, building with manipulatives, experimenting in science, or sharing in prayer and reflection, our students learn that technology is a tool--not a replacement--for curiosity, imagination, and human connection. We Are St. William's!
Summer reading and math requirement packets are now posted. Please visit the **Virtual Backpack > Summer Packets** section to download your child’s grade-level materials and stay on track for the upcoming school year.
The energy was palpable in the hallways and classrooms of St. William the Abbot School on Thursday, May 8th, as news of "white smoke" spread through the building, signifying the election of our new Holy Father! Students then gathered in the School Auditorium to watch Pope Leo XIV take his place in Church, and world, history. Chants of USA! USA! filled the auditorium, along with "Viva il Papa!" It was a moment like no other, and one that our students and staff will never forget. God bless Pope Leo XIV!
Tackling the topic of "Discernment and Vocations," members of the SWS Aquinas Team participated in the annual Diocesan Aquinas Expo on May 9, 2025,and took home the "Most Cohesive Presentation" Award. Three Diocesan Schools won awards, and St. William the Abbot was one of them!
Named after St. Thomas Aquinas, the Aquinas Program seeks to create a self-guided learning experience for students, transcending the four walls of the classroom. Students collaborate, use critical thinking skills, and challenge themselves to become autonomous learners.
Great job, SWS Aquinas Team! Congratulations to all participating Diocesan students!
On April 30th, SWS 7th and 8th graders were inducted into the St. William the Abbot Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, with Fr. Joe presiding over the ceremony. Students were recognized for their commitment to excellence! Well done!
To prepare for Holy Week, SWS participated in its Annual Retreat Day on April 11, 2025. Students entered the building in silence and proceeded to their classrooms, remaining in silence for the entire day. The SWS Student Council prepared presentations on "Stations of the Cross through Mary's Eyes," for all students, and the day culminated in all students and staff gathering in the Church for the Living Stations of the Cross, prepared by the 7th grade. It was a reverent and peaceful day!
Our 7th graders are traveling to Philadelphia, the birthplace of our democracy, while our 8th graders travel to Washington, DC, in culmination of their 2-years of study of American History! SWS takes civics and citizenship seriously, and we are happy to facilitate these memory-making field trips for our students. God Bless America!
The SWS Middle School Drama Club is pleased to present, "The Lion King, Jr." on Thursday, March 13, 2025 and Friday, March 14, 2025. Drama Club has been preparing for 6 months and the performances will be spectacular, as all SWS Drama Club shows have been throughout the years. Hakuna Matata!
SWS participated in Hallow's Catholic Schools Week Praylist Challenge, committing to pray as often as possible using the Hallow app. As a winner in the National Competition, Hallow is treating all SWS faculty, staff, and students to lunch from ALL-AMERICAN, while also supporting local business!
